Slowly but surely, Andrea Dovizioso started to crawl close to the weight of two rival, Casey Stoner and Jorge Lorenzo. The results of the Italian GP at Mugello circuit on Sunday (07.03.11), gives an indication that the Italian rider has not been surrendered to the MotoGP world championship 2011.

Dovizioso look very impressive in the race for 23 laps. Although not too expected, Repsol Honda rider was finally able to finish in second place, after the last lap beat his team mate, Stoner. This is what makes Dovizioso confident, that he should still be counted as one of the world champion candidate.

Indeed, since winning the race at Donington Park in 2009, Dovizioso was never again in number one on the podium. However, for his consistency throughout this season makes Dovizioso continued to reap the points where the six consecutive top-four is always great and the last three are always on the podium. As a result, Dovizioso is now only 33 points a drift of Stoner, who firmly on top of the standings.

"The second position is very important for the championship, because I made some important points and could cut the gap," said Dovizioso.

"Casey and Jorge (Lorenzo) is strong, but we also have shown that we could be there. This season is still long and we only need to be confident with it.

I would like to thank the team and everybody around me. We have a bike that can win and we continue to work hard in all areas. "

Dovizioso to admit that his success was ranked as two of the Italian GP, is an unbelievable experience.

"Mugello is always a special event and it felt wonderful when he was on the podium," said Dovizioso. "Today is my first and the only Italians who are on the podium, and this makes the results more special.

"The support from fans is extraordinary, they all encouraged me and many provide motivation, when I was tired, because of hot weather and the demands of this track, which requires a rider to have physically tough."
