Despite Messi's outrageous achievements, milestones and jaw-dropping performances throughout 2010, there was only ever bound to be one momentous occasion that summed up the Argentine's glittering year: his mesmerising quadruple strike against Arsenal in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, which took in 1499 out of a total 2205 votes. A distant second was winning the European Golden Shoe with 263 votes, while his double assist against Real Madrid in El Clasico in late November finished third with 235 votes.

CR7 has often been criticised for not being able to lift his game with the Portuguese national team. Ironically, his brilliant display in the final international friendly of 2010 against world champions Spain was voted by Goal.com readers as his magical moment of last year, earning 788 out of a total 2019 votes.
A close second with 575 votes was his string of match-winning performances which kept Real Madrid alive in the 2009-10 La Liga title race until the last day of the season. Another top of the match performance against AC Milan in the Champions League came in third with 247 votes.
