Spies who appeared consistent from session to Qualifications able to pass Marco Simoncelli on lap 12. Spies then win a speed race with Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo for third place.

Unfortunately for Ducati rider Valentino Rossi, who scattered into the distended position because of technical problems on lap eight. Almost the same fate experienced team mate, Nicky Hadyen, who failed to finish in the remaining three laps.
