Aussie swimmer Trickett back for shot at London Games

Trickett, 25, announced her comeback late Wednesday and said she wanted to be eligible in time under international drug-testing protocols to represent her country again at next year's world championships in Shanghai.

The former 50m and 100m freestyle world record holder retired last December, citing a desire to move on to the next stage of her life.

But Trickett said she started to realise in recent months that she still felt the need to compete and she had already resumed light training with her coach Grant Stoelwinder.

"I think it really solidified it at Pan Pacs (Pan Pacific event in California last month) seeing the guys race," Trickett said on television.

Casey Stoner has denied rumors that he was not focused defensively this season after Ducati certainly leave the Repsol Honda next season.

Alonso: Monza crucial for team morale

Fernando Alonso has denied that the Italian Grand Prix is a 'make or break' race for Ferrari's title ambitions, but admitted that the championship would be a pretty remote prospect if he had another bad result at the Monza.

After a disastrous Belgian Grand Prix - which saw Alonso qualify only 10th, get pushed into a spin by Rubens Barrichello on the first lap, make an incorrect tyre choice in the changing weather, and then crash out in the late rain shower - the Spaniard is now 41 points adrift of the championship leader Lewis Hamilton with only six races to go.

With the team's home race at the Monza next on the calendar, Alonso conceded that the Italian event would be crucial in both the points and morale terms.

"There is no denying that the Monza race will be very important," he wrote in his blog for the Ferrari website.

"At our home circuit we will have to do everything to avoid losing any more points: a good result here would be a great boost. If things go badly, it won't be over but it would be a hard knock for the team morale."

He is adamant that all is not yet lost for Ferrari this season and that a change of luck could make a massive difference.

"I have always said - and I repeat it now – that in the course of the season, good luck and bad luck tend to balance one another out, so let's hope that from now on it's payback time," said Alonso.

"The first 'final' went badly, but there are still six to go. Going into these seven races, I had said that whoever did the best job in them would take the title: clearly, there are now three of us who need to make up for ground lost in Spa.

"With this points system and the way races swing one way or another, I am convinced we still have a significant chance. There are 150 points up for grabs, enough to turn the situation around. We must remain calm and concentrate, to try and make up the difference as soon as possible."

Lorenzo focused on podium stay

The Championship leader’s goal is further consolidation of his advantage in the standings at the Misano, as he bids to maintain his record of having stood on the podium in every race this season.

Misano presents a new challenge for Jorge Lorenzo as the Fiat Yamaha rider takes his 68-point Championship lead to the Gran Premio Aperol di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini and a circuit on which he has twice finished second in the premier class.

The Spaniard comes into the 12th round of the 2010 campaign having placed outside the top two for the first time this season in the previous race at the Indianapolis. In Misano Lorenzo faces a track on which he has a solid personal record. In the three races he has ridden there he has been on the podium each time; a 250cc win in 2007 and second in the premier class in the precious two seasons the results that mark a confidence-inspiring affinity with the San Marinese venue.

This weekend Lorenzo will aim to maintain his 100% podium record in the 2010 as he aims to further protect his advantage, and he said: "We are going straight to Misano and I want to continue in the same way and get on the podium again. I've been second there for the last two years and I am feeling very motivated and looking forward to another good race.”

After a particularly draining weekend in the heat at Indy Lorenzo is hoping for kinder conditions. “I hope the temperature is a bit cooler than in Indy because it was really too hot there,” he said. “Last Sunday was my worst result this year, but I am still happy because it was still third and because it was very important for our goal, which is the Championship."
