That position he achieved after posting five victories from a total of 10 series that have acted, and only once failed on the podium, when it crashed in the GP of Spain - nudge with Valentino Rossi.
With thin advantages, and only 50 points lead over team-mate, Andrea Dovizioso, who is ranked third, admitted Stoner struggles in the second round will be heavy. Therefore, the former Ducati rider is promised to all-out during the remaining eight series in pursuit of victory, so they can stay away from the pursuit of nearest rivals.
"With a difficult situation like this, I do not think that the consistency will be able to present the world title," said Stoner. "You have to be there and win some races, and take risks. I think that's what will probably decide who the world champion.
"We will do our best job to do in every track, but if we can not win in one of the races, then we only need to be in the order of two, three, or maybe the worst. However, we will strive to achieve victory in every race. "
Regarding their performance throughout the 2011 season, the Stoner said he was happy with the performance of the RC212V. He admits, it is still the strongest motor set, even in "worst days" though.
"I think that without a problem in the second series (Spanish GP), we may always be on the podium in all races this season, which I believe is something very special. I am very pleased this year in the Repsol Honda team.
"Motorcycles have worked with brilliant and even on the worst days, the motor was not working badly. This is something very positive. When we have a chance to win, we are always there, very close, and gave us the opportunity to further often win. "
